Introductory Word
Prof. Dr. Kamal El Sarrag stands as one of the defining figures of Egypt's modern art movement—an artist, educator, and academic leader whose influence spans generations. With a career rooted in the deep traditions of Arabic visual culture and enriched by international scholarship, his work bridges classical foundations with contemporary experimentation. From pioneering abstract compositions inspired by Arabic letters particularly the letter Sīn to exploring kinetic sculpture in his later years, El Sarrag continuously evolved while remaining grounded in identity and meaning.
As a former President of Helwan University and Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, his impact extended beyond the studio into national cultural policy, education, and artistic mentorship. With over 20 solo exhibitions across Egypt, Europe, and the United States, and works housed in major museums and global collections, Dr. El Sarrag leaves behind not only a legacy of creation but also a legacy of dedication to art, to form, and to the future of Egyptian creativity.
